Fabric Goodies

I got some new fabric to make my husband some more Negronis. He liked his first one and has requested more, so that's part of my summer sewing plan.

We picked out the fabric together from a local store:

I'm a little concerned about all the stripe matching that I'll have to do!!

Luckily I bought extra fabric in case I mess up.

And here's some cotton voile that I got in order to make myself a summer dress. The colors happen to fit in with my spring/summer palette challenge. :)

I plan to use it to make a Colette Chantilly. I'll have to do an SBA on it though, so I'm thinking I should do a muslin first because I've never truly done one before. But I still have some other projects that I need to finish first!

  2. I always choose a notch to match up to... like one of the armhole or shoulder notches depending on the pattern.you more or less can't go wrong then..good luck!!

  3. The Chantilly is my favorite Colette pattern. I keep wanting to make it for my daughter. That is wonderful fabric for it.

  5. Your fabric choices are lovely, and it's great that your hubbie went fabric shopping with you for his shirts!

  6. I made a Chantilly ages and ages ago and its too big now. Sad cause I put a lot of work into it, happy cause well... it means I lost weight.

In order to save fabric I recommend just doing a muslin on the bodice portion. The skirt is basically a dirndl, so no real fitting required. I also recommend doing a hand-picked zipper insertion.

    2. Thanks for the tips! I think you're right, not much point in muslining the skirt.

  7. You are a saint! Not only making a shirt for someone else, but print matching! Aargh! I'd need to be a much better person to attempt it!

  8. All three fabrics are lovely but I really like the cotton voile. I'm looking forward to seeing how the chantilly looks in it.

  9. Thanks for popping by my blog and for your sweet comment! These fabrics sure do look tasty. That voile is an inspired choice for the Chantilly! I think I read some comments that with the gathering in the Chantilly, it was OK without a SBA -- or that they just removed a little width from the bust pieces as their "SBA lite" and it worked fine. And unselfish crafting --- I admire!
